Abstract:
The importance of education has been emphasized in numerous reports as a means of acquiring essential skills such as digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem solving. It is crucial for students to effectively utilize digital tools, materials, and environments at all levels. However, in-service and pre-service teachers often lack some essential skills, indicating a need to raise awareness and foster knowledge and experience in these areas.Much research has also pointed out the limitations of electronic content in lessons. Science courses play a vital role in addressing these concerns, and integrating digital games into these courses is strongly recommended. This research aims to design, implement, and evaluate a digital game for pre-service elementary teachers, focusing specifically on the "Matter and Properties" and "Nature of Matter" topics in chemistry. The research will develop a problem-based digital game that includes chemistry concepts suitable for elementary education for pre-service elementary teachers. In order to determine the necessity of this game and evaluate its effectiveness, several data collection tools will be employed, including focus group interviews, the "Ennis-Weir Critical Thinking Essay Test," the "Learning Stages on Chemical Concepts Content Test," and the "System Usability Scale." The research will begin with a needs analysis, followed by the development of the digital game once the problem-based scenarios and content have been established. The game will then undergo both pilot and main applications, during which its impact on pre-service teachers' critical thinking and understanding of chemistry concepts will be examined. Finally, participants will evaluate the game. Quantitative data will be analyzed descriptively and statistically, while qualitative data will be analyzed through descriptive and content analysis. This approach will assess the effects of the developed digital game on the variables and the opinions of the pre-service teachers.
